1. Please introduce yourself!
My name is Emersyn Huxhold, and I am from Chicago, Illinois. After going through the college application process, I was accepted into The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Boston College, Providence College, and Santa Clara University (I chose to remove myself from Villanova and Northwestern’s waitlists). I decided to attend UW-Madison due to its “work hard play hard” atmosphere, distance from home, and the fact that I felt as though I truly belonged here on my campus visit. I am studying Finance and Risk Management & Insurance through the Wisconsin School of Business. I am a part of the Risk Management and Insurance Society, Vice President Risk Management of my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and work as a bartender on campus. At Wisconsin, there is something for everyone to enjoy; I have been lucky to meet many different people through all the activities I participate in. The other students here push me to be my best self academically and socially, making me believe that Wisconsin is the best place to receive an education that leads to character growth and self-discovery. The only negative element of UW-Madison is the freezing temperatures, but we still have plenty of fun!
2. Tell us about your Vault Prep experience.
My family came to discover Vault Prep through a close family friend’s recommendation. During my first session, I knew that Vault Prep was going to be the best tutoring service for my development. The out-of-the-box thinking strategies that Vault uses still helps me to this day when I face challenges in my college-level classes. The most essential skills I learned were during the punctuation lessons. I did not know what semicolons were used for and had to relearn many comma rules. Being taught one-on-one really helped me stay focused on the topics at hand, which led to a significant increase in test scores. My tutors also implored me to manage my time well, through administering practice questions that I had to find time to complete while balancing my AP class work. I remember developing this skill while at Vault Prep, which helps in college while juggling my many activities.
My best advice would be to trust your gut. Whether this comes to questions on the ACT/SAT or deciding on a school after the process, you know yourself best and it’s important to make these choices for you only. Everyone says that you end up where you are meant to be, and I couldn't agree more! I promise that whatever situation you find yourself in, there will be aspects to enjoy and learn more about yourself.
